UNTIL NEVER OBEY EXHIBITION

So I finally made some time to check out some exhibitions currently running in Melbourne, one of them being the Obey exhibition showing at the Until Never Gallery, to be honest I didn’t have high expectations, and sadly I wasn’t wrong. I’m not hating on Shepard Fairey, but the whole scene is just getting a little wanky.
First of all, walking up the steps to the gallery space I hear Madonna blaring, and I’m greeted by a snooty lady. Now each to their own, but the vibe is already kinda dead to me, but I still look around. I asked the attendant if it would be ok to take a couple of snaps for the blog to which she replies “No, but the are plenty of Shepard’s in the lane way”, she continues by pointing to a price list of the prints but after a head to toe look at me says: “But you could just buy a nice sticker pack if you like, they’re only $25″. On the topic of the prints, they were mostly open editions selling for three times the amount the Obey website is listing them as.
I was mostly disappointed that there was only one original piece on show, if I wanted to look at reprints I could have saved myself the time and looked at the Swindle changing rooms.
As for the Shepard’s in the lane way, it was full of tourist taking happy snaps and some girls photo shoot trying to look ghetto on some milk crates.
